The Machakos County Department of Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with the county’s municipalities, has officially commenced the Second Annual Performance Assessment (APA II) aimed at strengthening urban governance and service delivery.
The exercise is being conducted with technical support from M/S Alpex Consulting Africa Limited, contracted by the State Department of Housing and Urban Development, to assess compliance with the required Minimum Conditions and Performance Standards under the urban development framework.
The week-long assessment begins with Machakos, Kangundo–Tala, and Mavoko Municipalities, where teams will evaluate governance structures, service delivery systems, financial management practices, and overall institutional performance. The process is intended to enhance sustainable urban management and improve efficiency in service delivery.
The assessment also reinforces the implementation of the Urban Areas and Cities Act, ensuring municipalities operate within strong legal and institutional frameworks.
The administration of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti has expressed appreciation to the World Bank, the State Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Council of Governors for their continued support in strengthening institutional capacity and promoting effective urban governance for the benefit of Machakos residents.
